What's your business philosophy? Empty Re: What's your business philosophy?

My business philosophy is realism. This is as opposed to idealism. Ideas are worthless unless proven against reality.

I will give an example. Someone I know recently had the idea of allowing women to custom design jeans online and then have them custom made in China and shipped to the buyer. Sounds like a good idea, right? Well first I checked with my wife and other women I know. They loved it. So then I built a basic website to do this, but when the buyer actually places the order, I say some bullshit like "this product is back ordered, we have not charged your card, and we will notify you when it is back in stock". The point is to test the market without actually arranging manufacturing in China. It turns out that American women don't know their own measurements. I put up a YouTube video on how to do this. Still no go. I went back to the women I know and asked them about this. They couldn't believe it, but then of course they aren't American bimbos. Reality has spoken and I avoided putting too much effort in testing the idea, so I didn't lose much and dropped the idea. The point is to never trust any idea until you test the market.

I don't really have a business philosophy per se, but so far my desire is to create useful things (e-books so far.) I know that Fschmidt has it right as far as what most potential customers respond to (stupid stuff), but I'm just not at the point where I'm willing to make crap and try to sell it. That's not motivating for me. I do so much better when I care about what I'm doing (obviously.)
