Hello.

I am an Australian man who has been a member on Happier Abroad for a few months. I found this website through a link on there.

The idea of starting a business is very appealing to me. A rather obvious statement, yet I suspect most of my demographic doesn't hold such ambitions or even consider the possibilities. My motivation is the prospect of travel and freedom, especially in Asia. My first trip overseas was a couple of years ago. I went to Thailand and fell in love with Asia. It was so different and less regulated, the weather was warmer, the women were lovelier and friendlier. The culture, the pagodas, the natural beauty. Gorgeous.

I am not such an outgoing man as I was, and have slowly crept back into my shell over the years as my inhibitions developed with age (I am 30 shortly, still young). I am not a people person like I was 10 years ago. The more I learned about what makes the majority of (western) people tick, the more I began to view them with disgust. The positive I take from this is that it applied to business, there is plenty to be learned from such a large target market.

Some may consider me introverted, but I keep frequent contact with only a few close personal friends because I see little value in superficial relationships. My best friend in particular I love exchanging ideas and philosophies with, which is fantastic to have. Funnily enough he is overseas. Small talk and all that bull***t I encounter in daily life does nothing for me, though I am perfectly capable of it. Western people are generally insincere with strangers, especially in cities. We seem to have developed a veiled disgust for our fellow man. But that is a discussion for another day, and perhaps another (sub)forum!

I have never started a business and have not settled on any idea in particular. At this stage I am researching, reading and listening to as much information as I can on entrepreneurship, people, life and motivation. My ability and confidence to manage people and give orders is undeveloped. This will need work.

I am married to a pretty Asian lady and do not have children.

Looking forward to exchanging ideas with you and building motivation in this forum.

Smile

Hi, thanks for joining. Now we are 4!

Apart from financial independence, traveling is also one of my main goals in terms of having a business. I think that's what we all really want to do, or at least have the option to do it. I haven't traveled much, certainly not to Asia, but that part of the world really intrigues me. Not all of it, but certain aspects, mainly the relative freedom. I'm not sure if I could handle the humidity but that's something I'm going to have to figure out, if I ever go there.

I remember years ago I was with a guy from South Africa and we asked a woman in a shop for directions to some place, and after the conversation he said why do english people smile and then quickly stop smiling? They should either smile or not smile. I knew exactly what he meant. That's one example of how tense western people sometimes are. I hate the way everyone lives in their own little bubble. I can always sense it. I'm also becoming more disgusted by the mentality. Not all of it is so bad, but there's too much that is, and in recent years it has been bothering me. Traveling is a very, very scary thought to me, but I have to do it.

For me there are 2 obstacles : money and confidence. I've written 2 books which are on Amazon and right now I'm working on my first information product, which so far has taken me over 7 months. As for confidence, well I hope I get some as I hopefully start to make some money.

If you want to start some kind of business, I would suggest immersing yourself in that world. I don't know anyone who is into starting a business, and I know how important it is to have people who are where you want to be, so every day I listen to podcasts, watch youtube videos, read books, and I think about almost nothing else. The voices that I hear in those podcasts etc are my new friends.

Here is a list of various relevant resources :

I do hope this forum gets more members.

Welcome aboard Break The Chains. So what's the story behind meeting your Asian wife? If you don't mind me asking.

I was introduced to her by my brother and his wife. She was an overseas student studying here. Lucky, but then again I knew what I was looking for.

Dating western girls seems like a lifetime ago.
